Chattahoochee National Forest

Fannin County has over 106,000 acres of forest, 66,097 in the Blue Ridge Ranger District and 40,006 acres in the Cohutta Wilderness.

Vast mountains and wilderness, 1,367 miles of trout streams, and 430 miles of trails welcome visitors to the Chattahoochee National Forest. The famous 2,135-mile Appalachian Trail begins here and features some of the best Autumn scenery you’ll ever witness.

Don’t forget to stop at Brasstown Bald, Georgia’s highest peak at 4,784 feet. Trails wind around the mountain and the observation deck offers breathtaking panoramic views of mountains and valleys.

'You-Pick ' Apple Orchards

North Georgia’s Apple Orchards provide the perfect backdrop for family photos during the Autumn months. Ellijay, Blue Ridge, and even nearby McCaysville, TN all feature some of the best orchards around.

In addition to picking apples in the orchards, many feature other attractions including apple cannons, wagon rides (farm tours), petting farm, scavenger hunt, pony rides, ziplines and more. You’ll find plenty of fresh produce, apple fritters, fried pies, cider, jelly, jams, and lots of other treats to take back home.

Blue Ridge Scenic Railway

One of the best ways to experience the inspiring scenery of the North Georgia Mountains is via the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. The experience offers classic and open-air rail cars for breathtaking views on the relaxing ride. The ride begins at the historic depot in downtown Blue Ridge and travels along the Toccoa River, stopping along the way in other surrounding towns. The fall foliage tour is one you and your family will remember for years to come.
